How to reduce speech error and have an interesting presentation?(PART ONE)

If you are one of those who think that with the help of a good presentation you can bring a lot of clients to your company, you are most likely to understand the process and this is an excellent tool.

But if you haven “t been able to make a great presentation, or if you haven” t got a lot of attention after finishing the presentation, or even the number of people involved with presentations are less, you may have some misunderstandings that I want to address.

In fact, for an excellent performance, you have to identify a series of mistakes and correct them. We find some obvious mistakes that many people have suffered, identify them, and then remove them and find a miracle! If you don’t believe it, you can dispel these mistakes in your presentation and enjoy.

Common mistakes in holding a great speech

Common mistakes in the most of the  presentations, or webinars (web-based seminar), and seminars can include personal or technical drawbacks. With this list and the solutions, we hope to identify a number of these problems and resolve them.

The lack of a basic outline of the speech lead to its failure

Well, the first thing I want to do for a presentation is not the content of your presentation. Each presentation has its original content. But this content should be based on an initial perspective. When you do not have a basic description of the presentation, the content, the purpose of the presentation, and the results, you certainly cannot write the exact content that will serve the purpose.

Having an elementary description of its presentation and purpose, and its terms and conditions, which of course include more elements such as the audience, the terms, and so on, all help to have a great presentation.

The presentation is organized, not just reading out the text!

Presentation is not just reading out a text, but you might understand what you mean by a presentation! The purpose of any presentation is making connection among people. This presentation can be just for your boss, or your subordinates, or even members of the company or a crowd of 6 or a thousand!…

Many managers tend to sell a large number of their products with one presentation. During a presentation it depends both on you and the information you are transferring. In fact, the audience tries to trust with these two elements.

When will this confidence decline?

Just when an audience is trying to take presenter look at them once! Sometimes someone (presenter) keep his head down on the paper and starts reading a strange, bizarre speech that he just reads from the text! No eye contact.

The goal of an effective presentation is that the speaker has the skills to make the meeting as if he was speaking individually with each of these people.

If you keep your head down all the time on the written text, notes and slides, it will definitely not to be effective, but it will also be very tiring.

The tone of a monotone, lowering of eye contact, engaging with a mobile phone, or occasionally listening to a mobile phone, and even the cunning response to a mobile phone, will help you make your presentation a fiasco.

Dealing with the all content is exhausting

It is a pervasive error in presentation to address all things (to cover all of the contents). You know that when you look at the slide, you have a lot to say, but not the time or the purpose of the speech will not allow you to get involved in all of the problems. It is best to point out some of the main points that time and make the rest so that the audience can only get information about it and visit you over the next few days.

You have to practice enough for a good speech

Assume that your presentation and your PowerPoint presentations are excellent and have good content and that you will attract a large number of viewers with the perspective you have set out to present. Well everything is great in this situation but you are not good enough at work! Do you think you can make this great collection great?

Certainly not

When it comes to presentation, and when you want to present a good talk, you have to know that if you have a great presentation but you can’t get it properly to the audience, you definitely failed.

It is said that you should practice one hour for per minute speech. As you practice, you get dominant on speech and you can understand every details of the presentation and look for good answers to the audience likely questions and get the message across.

So if all your effort for a presentation and lecture is great, but you have no practicing to perform, I have to assure that you will also be wasting others time.

When you are practicing, you can better identify key points and know when to use them. You can even notice that by using short pauses and those points you can convince your audience and hit the targets.

Another advantage of practicing for lectures is that you learn how to manage time.

Practicing has many advantages that you get it, so always plan for it.

Too little or too much time is a sign of a poor speech

Usually people who speak for top organizations start with a specific timing. The audience is not going to sit in front of you and you have to engage them for hours.

Imagine now being so overwhelmed with a lot of stuff, and extra time! Suddenly you realize that you have ended a 4-hour lecture in 1 minute! It’s a disaster! Here you may be bombarded with questions from the audience that will trap you.

On the other hand, if you want to present a lecture without any preparing, it may take you an hour to leave the main story untold! Here is where you waste your time and haven’t achieve your goal.

What’s the solution?

Having a timer, and scheduling the days before the presentation, helps you to practice and manage your time as well as you can, and know when to say what to say when it comes time for your presentation. And achieve your goal.

Unusual design of slides and chaos in speech

To have a good speech, we need to get the attention of the audience. But you might not believe you have less than a second to get your audience’s attention and keep them entertained all the time. If you remember, in one of our recent tutorials, we saw a tutorial that taught you how to simulate a Star Wars movie for your PowerPoint so why talk about a Star Wars movie?

Since this film and its various parts are appealing to the audience, and a certain stratum of attention is over-normalized, it seemed that by showing a scene from a well-known movies such as a Star Wars as an intro, could make the audience exciting.  And now watch this presentation for hours.

The purpose of embedding film in your slides is to get the audience’s attention. At first you need to know what is appealing to your audience.

Proper design and presentation of a PowerPoint presentation helps you get the audience involved in your presentation and get their attention to your lectures and its content.

Failure to test the presentation environment and file can cause to a problem

One mistake of amateur bosses is that they think if they wake up in the morning, they have enough time to prepare both the presentation slides and the content, get their clothes ironed and possibly take shower until the presentation real time.

But a well-experienced person knows that there are things in the presentation place that can cause high nervous pressure.

For example:

While you are delivering your presentation your slides may lock! Here’s where you lose everything.

Or maybe you have some weird imagery of the place.

Or think of what your audience think you as unbearable.

This is not about practicing for presentation, but practicing presenting properly and free from error. The best thing is to go to the place one or two days before the lectures and test everything to reduce the speech error. Sit behind the podium and imagine that many are waiting for your talk. Even sit in the audience chair to find out how would you looked like from the audience view.

Check your presentation file and make sure you are well prepared and able to manage it, before the presentation day. Can part of the presentation cross over with the light of windows or lights and make it difficult for the audience? Test all of this and get ready for the lecture day comfortably.

Speech error increases with heavy, content-intensive slides

Usually, those who use slides for speech should know that the purpose of using slide can be presenting the lecture and providing a general perspective on the audience and involving the audience. But imagine that you are entering a presentation session knowledgeable and there are papers that filled with lots of contents, in front of you. On the other hand, you also want to search for some items online. When you want to know where you are lecturing to get the right policy and keep the flow going, you will suddenly find a page full of content that will confuse you the most.

On the other hand, if you look at the audience at the same time, you notice that they are also wandering on the slides and probably does not care about you (and maybe at the end they ask you , without even taking a small note from your speech, please send the presentation file!) You might not believe that in some of the classes we had at university, some of us wanted to get our professors presentation slides instead of textbooks, and that’s exactly how we would pass some lessons! So you need to know that for a successful presentation you should never fill the slides with details.

Thus, if you have making eye contact with the slides rather than making eye contact with the audience, it leads the presentation to fail.
